Yamaha India that doesn’t have a commuter bike in its portfolio as of now, might launch one on April 14, 2016. Though the company hasn’t revealed anything about the product, our sources say that this could be an ultra low-cost bike to take on the Bajaj CT100.
For people not in the know, Yamaha has been working on a commuter bike for quite a long time under a new project called INDRA (Innovative and New Development based on Responsible Analysis). So there is a very high possibility of the same bike finally entering the market.
Since it will be an entry-level motorcycle targeted towards buyers from rural and tier III and tier IV towns, we expect this one to not have features like engine start-stop button, alloy wheels and digital instrument console. Having said that, it will be quite a fuel-efficient motorcycle.
Powering the new Yamaha bike could be a 100cc engine mated to a 4-speed gearbox. With high level of localisation, we expect the bike to cost much less than the Yamaha Crux that the company discontinued last year.
Team Express Drives will be at the launch event on 14th April to bring you a detailed coverage of it. Check out this space for more updates on this.
