Weekend getaways from Bangalore in August during Independence Day

Of all the Indian cosmopolitans, people from Bangalore tend to be the most content with their lot. They say it has a lot to do with the weather. Bangalore also has a number of places for you to getaway on a long weekend like this one, some of the best driving roads in the country, and you get a chance to break the cycle of crawling traffic. Now, this doesn’t just apply to the automotively inclined readers, but a nice drive with family or friends is the best way to shed the stress of the corporate rigmarole. Here’s our list of recommendations to getaway this weekend if you’re someone who enjoys driving/ riding. After all, what can be a better getaway for any automotive enthusiast other than a vehicle of choice and a road of desire.

Shivnasamudram Falls (Distance from Bangalore 135kms)

A slight detour from the Bangalore Mysore highway, along the banks of the River Kaveri, Shivnasamudram Falls is a scenic waterfall, which makes for a great driving or riding destination. Most of the trip is along Bangalore’s NH209 which means that you neither need a specialised vehicle for the trip. The total drive would be about 135kms but can be dispatched easily as the roads are wide and ideal for high cruising speeds. Once you do get to the falls, sit back and watch the mesmerizing cascade. The monsoons are the best time to visit so pack your bags!

Nandi Hills (Distance from Banglore 70kms)

Now Nandi hills is pretty famous already, a sharp fast hill climb that cuts through the hillscape makes for a one of kind drive or ride. Although one should be aware that the narrow roads can get very very hairy if you’re not weary. A fast motorcycle or a quick peppy hatch is our pick for this exception road. In fact if driving or riding is not your cuppa tea there’s even a cycling path that head up to the top.At just 70 kms away from Bangalore, it’s almost unmissable, although monsoon do add a bit of slippery to an already tight track so be very careful when making your way up.

Kabini 209 km from Bangalore

The River Cabin at Kabini is a proper eco-tourism dugout, but it promises some great views of scenery and wildlife. Most of all you can drown out the sound of city with some serene peaceful meadows and a view to kill for. Again the roads are mostly highways and make for a relaxing drive. Although this is slightly far with respect to the other two, it’s worth it entirely! Reach there and unwind at the European styled cabin, which is especially beautiful in the monsoons.
