Volkswagen Tayron 7-seat SUV spotted testing in India — to come as Tiguan Allspace

When launched in India, Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace will be available as a more premium alternative to the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian, MG Gloster, and Skoda Kodiaq.

Volkswagen launched the Tiguan R-Line recently at an introductory price of Rs 49 lakh (ex-showroom). The German carmaker is gearing up to launch yet another SUV in India. A test mule of the VW Tayron has been caught testing on Indian roads in a fully uncamouflaged avatar.

Available in select international markets like Brazil, the Tayron is expected to be renamed as Tiguan Allspace when it gets launched in India. For the uninitiated, the Tiguan was briefly unavailable in India between 2020 and 2022. In this period, the German carmaker offered the seven-seat Tiguan Allspace in the country which came as a fully-imported CBU unit.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace: Exterior highlights

There are multiple reasons we believe that the Tayron could carry the Tiguan nameplate in India. For starters, the Tayron is visually very similar to the Tiguan R-Line. This includes a black grille panel flanked by sleek LED headlights, and a large mesh-patterned air dam lower down the bumper up front. Even the 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and the rear bumper also look very familiar to the Tiguan R-Line.

On a close glance, one might notice the R badging underneath the left rear view mirror. This suggests that the Tiguan Allspace will be available in its sportier avatar. Dimensionally, however, Tayron is visibly larger in every way than the regular Tiguan as well as Tiguan R-Line.  The Tayron is 253mm longer, 7mm wider, and 9mm taller than the Tiguan R-Line. The wheelbase of the Tayron also goes up by 109mm. Hence, dimensionally it will be similar to its Czech cousin—- Skoda Kodiaq.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace: Interiors & Features

Inside the cabin, the interior layout of the Tayron is likely to be identical to the Tiguan R-Line, barring the addition of a third row of seats. With three rows up, boot space stands at 345 litres which can be expanded to 850 litres – 198 litres more than Tiguan.

The Tayron’s cabin features a sleek, minimalistic design with a largely button-free layout. Taking center stage is a 15-inch infotainment touchscreen, complemented by a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster positioned in front of the driver. Expected features include a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, three-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, Level 2 ADAS, and more.

Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace: Expected Powertrain, Launch

Under the hood, the Tayron is expected to be powered by the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine found in the Tiguan R-Line and the second-gen Kodiaq. This engine delivers 201 bhp and 320 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels.

We expect Volkswagen to bring the Tayron/Tiguan Allspace to India sometime later this year. If it’s based on the sportier R-Line trim, then the Tiguan Allspace is likely to come to India as a fully-imported CBU model.
