Vinfast has been on its heels for a very long time and it’s finally all set to take its first steps in India. The Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) brand will launch its first products in the country — VF7 and VF6 — on September 6. The company had already showcased both battery-powered vehicles at the Bharat Mobility Expo earlier this year.
Vinfast has set up an assembly plant at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, India. This is the company’s third operational plant and the fifth project in its global manufacturing network, and is the first VinFast facility inaugurated outside Vietnam. The VF7 and VF6 will be assembled in this facility.Â
Bookings for both electric SUVs began last month at a token amount of Rs 21,000. Ahead of their official launch, let us look at what these electric SUVs have to offer.
Vinfast VF7
According to the Vinfast India website, the VF7 will be available in two variants – Technology and Comfort+. While the international model uses a 75.3 kWh battery, the India-spec version is expected to feature a 70.8 kWh unit, delivering a range of 450–500 km per charge. The drivetrain choice for India remains to be seen.
Feature highlights include dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof, full-LED lighting, a coloured head-up display, connected car tech, and Level 2 ADAS. The cabin will feature a dual-tone layout with Vegan Leather upholstery. Expect it to be offered at a starting price of Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom).
Vinfast VF6
The VF6 is a compact electric SUV tailored for urban mobility, measuring 4,238 mm in length and available in two trims – Eco and Plus. Both use a front-wheel-drive setup, with the Eco producing 172 bhp and the Plus 198 bhp. A 59.6 kWh battery powers the SUV, delivering a range of 381–399 km depending on the variant. Feature offerings are expected to be largely similar to the VF7 including Level 2 ADAS. Expect it to be offered at a starting price of Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
