How quick are quick cars? A Bugatti Chiron will do 0-100 in 2.3 seconds and a Lamborghini Aventador in 2.5 seconds. Compare the Aspark Owl to an all-electric car, if you must, the Tesla Model S recorded 2.5 seconds last year. Owl was quicker!

Aspark Owl, an all-electric prototype supercar from Japan has just clocked in a 0-100 sprint time of 1.92 seconds! That’s one… and before you can say two, it’ll be doing 100 km/h. Japanese manufacturer Aspark promised last year, and quite confidently, that it would build a two-seat, exotic with butterfly door that will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in under two seconds. And indeed, the Owl has delivered. Now, to put things in perspective – a Bugatti Chiron does 0-100 km/h in 2.3 seconds and a Lamborghini Aventador will take 2.3 seconds. But then, we have to consider that an electric motor allows delivery of instant torque and hence a more eligible comparison would be the Tesla Model S, which last year became the fastest-accelerating production car in the world.

Another eligible contender would be the Tesla Roadster which, as Elon Musk has promised, will sprint to 100 km/h in 1.9 seconds. Not just that, Musk went on to say that the Roadster is slow and that he’d like it to be even quicker. The Aspark Owl, however, isn’t just a promise anymore and has actually attained the under-two-seconds ambition.

Aspark Owl rides on Hoosier racing tyres and is powered by a pair of 40 kW motors which put out 429 bhp and 763 Nm of torque. There are batteries and a supercapacitor, that converts energy from braking into charge, for instant acceleration.

The insane acceleration is backed by power being sent to all four wheels. The motors are small, keeping the weight as low as 850 kg. And the Owl is very low at only 990 mm.

Aspark claims the Owl will be capable of a top speed of a little over 278 km/h, which will affect the range of about 149 km. It is almost like the rest of the details aren’t even important anymore, we can’t get over 0-100 km/h in 1.92 seconds.
