Turkmenistan bans black cars and women drivers: Here are the weird reasons

We often find ourselves complaining about the government and the problems that we have to face because of their inability to make good ones. Every now and then we wake up to some dictator passing laws so blatantly ridiculous that we need to take a step back smell the roses and thank god for democracy. Take for example Turkmenistan, whose residents woke up to find their cars missing.

The worried residents then launched an investigation, only to find that all of the cars that had disappeared were black. Moreover, the news began to float that their cars had been towed and impounded by the Federal government under orders from President Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedov. Berdymukhamedov, apparently woke up one morning and decided to ban all black cars in the capital, because they were ‘bad luck’.Leaving hundreds of residents confused and now transport-less in the capital city of Ashgabat.

Luckily, the price they will have to pay to get their car back isn’t off the charts. All they will have to do is Sign a simple agreement that requires an immediate respray prior to getting back on the road.
And that not the end of President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov’s reign of ulterior logic, as of December 2017 issued the edict in December at the request of Turkmenistan’s Interior Minister, who argued that women drivers are responsible for the majority of car accidents in the country, according to AKI Press.

The Turkmenistan police have been taking this with full earnestly, seizing licenses women of women who dare flout the ban. The moral of the story here is that we should think twice before criticizing when democracy moves slowly. Because the alternative is fast yes, but it’s a whole lot of crazy!
