Toyota Innova Hycross scores 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP

Toyota Innova Hycross is available in seven- as well as eight-seat configurations. Powertrain options include a 2.0-litre petrol strong hybrid and a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit.

Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) has released the crash test report of the Toyota Innova Hycross. The Hycross becomes the first Toyota and the first MPV to be crash tested by Bharat NCAP. The MPV passed the crash test with flying colours scoring an overall 5-star safety rating. 

The crash test was conducted by the autonomous body in April this year which involved the 8-seater, VX 8-seater, SHEV and ZX 7-seater SHEV variants of the Hycross. This basically means, the rating is applicable across the entire range of Innova Hycross.

The Innova Hycross scored 30.47 out of 32 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 45 out of 49 points for Child Occupant Protection (COP). This includes a dynamic score of 24 out of 24, thanks to ISOFIX anchorages and support for recommended child restraints.

In AOP, the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the vehicle scored 14.47 out of 16 points.  While most body regions, including the head and legs, received a ‘good’ safety rating, the driver’s chest and left tibia were rated as ‘adequate.’ The side movable deformable barrier test saw the Innova HyCross score the full 16 points, with ‘good’ protection ratings across all body parts. The MPV also underwent a side pole impact test, where it received an ‘OK’ rating.

In the Child Occupant Protection category, the Innova HyCross secured an impressive 45 out of 49 points, earning a 5-star safety rating. It achieved a perfect score in the dynamic tests (24/24) and the Child Restraint System (CRS) installation evaluation (12/12). In the vehicle assessment section, the MPV scored 9 out of 13 points. The tests were conducted using child dummies representing 18-month-old and 3-year-old occupants.

The Toyota Innova Hycross comes equipped with standard safety features such as standard 3-point seatbelts for all seats,six airbags including curtain airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), pedestrian protection technology, ISOFIX child seat mounts, seatbelt reminder for all occupants, and rear parking sensors.

The Innova HyCross also meets AIS-100 pedestrian protection standards. Additionally, the top-spec ZX (O) variant is equipped with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite.
