Toyota dispatches 1 lakh units of Urban Cruiser HyRyder

Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder goes up against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Curvv, Honda Elevate, and its own cousin Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara to name a few.

Toyota has attained a new landmark in India as the Japanese carmaker announced that the Urban Cruiser Hyryder has surpassed the remarkable milestone of 1,00,000-unit sales in India. The mid-size SUV was launched in July 2022 and clocked the 1 lakh mark in 28 months.

In comparison, its sibling from Maruti Suzuki— the Grand Vitara— reached a 2 lakh sales figure in July 2024, despite the Grand Vitara launching almost two months after the Urban Cruiser Hyryder in September 20022. The HyRyder is the first new product to be born out of the Suzuki-Toyota alliance and is priced between Rs 11.14 lakh and Rs 19.99 both ex-showroom).

Commenting on the milestone, Mr. Sabari Manohar — Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said, “The positive response to the Urban Cruiser Hyryder reflects our commitment to delivering innovative mobility solutions tailored to the evolving preferences of Indian customers. Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder: Powertrain specs

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder is available in 13 variants across four trims – E, S, G, and comes with three powertrain options: self-charging Strong Hybrid Electric [SHEV], Neo Drive and CNG. The Neo Drive gets a 1.5-litre  naturally aspirated petrol engine which kicks out 102 bhp and 137 Nm of peak torque. This unit is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. This powertrain also comes with an optional All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system.

The CNG variants are powered by the same 1.5-litre petrol unit but kicks out a detuned 87 bhp and 121.5 Nm of peak torque. This unit is paired with a 5-speed manual as standard. The SHEV variants get a 1.5-litre petrol engine combined with an electric motor and a battery which pumps out 114 bhp. This powertrain is paired with an eCVT gearbox driving the front wheels.
