Snowboarding at over 100 km/h! A wide-eyed impossibility to us, but to Britain’s fastest snowboarder Jamie Barrow, it wasn’t fast enough. Barrow has now broken his own Guinness World Record, registering a new top speed ever done on a snowboard while being towed by a Maserati Levante. The snowboard sensation had already set a record in February 2016, when he snowboarded at 99.87 km/h while being towed behind a car on the frozen lake in St Moritz. While Barrow had been faster than himself before, but he still believed he could go even faster since the track in 2016 was slightly shorter than originally planned and the soft snow did not allow much grip.
Barrow returned to the lake this time with a powerful SUV, the Maserati Levante which is much faster than the vehicle that was used to two during the last attempt. The Levante with Pirelli Scorpion winter tyres, which were studded with 474 studs per tyre and were 4 mm long to allow the best grip possible on the frozen lake.
Maserati Levante is the Italian brand’s first ever SUV and was launched in India earlier this year at a starting price of Rs 1.45 crore. The India spec Levante comes mounted with a 275 hp 3-litre V6 Turbo Diesel engine.
The Levante features the ‘Q4’ intelligent all-wheel-drive system, which assures instant transfer of torque between axles when required. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Maserati Levante diesel with 275 hp can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and has a top speed of 230 km/h.

About his newly set Guinness World Record, Jamie said, “I’m absolutely delighted to have broken my own record. I always knew there was much more speed possible with the right conditions and crucially the right car to tow me. The Maserati Levante made light work of the icy and snowy conditions, giving us the grip to really hit top speed. The adrenalin rush is always amazing when you hit those speeds – I’m just happy I was able to hold my nerve, keep the snowboard in line and ultimately smash the World Record.”
