Once considered as the most aspirational segment in the Indian car market, sedans are sadly now a dying breed. Lack of options, and overwhelming strength of new SUVs and crossovers in the market have accentuated the unpopularity. Such is the apathy that only a single sedan made it to the list of the top 25 cars sold in November 2023.
Let us look at the top 5 sedans sold in India in November this year.

Maruti Dzire
Maruti Suzuki Dzire was the only sedan to make it to the best-selling list of top 25 cars last month. Occupying the top spot in sedans, and second overall, Dzire registered a monthly sales volume of 15,956 units which resulted in a 10.44% YoY growth and an 8.64% MoM growth.
The subcompact sedan is currently priced between Rs 6.51 lakh and Rs 9.39 lakh (both ex-showroom) and is extensively used by fleet operators. Dzire is based on the Swift which is due for a generation upgrade very soon.
Hyundai Aura
Dzire was immediately followed by its direct rival Hyundai Aura which accounted for a monthly volume of 3,850 units in November. While YoY growth remained stagnant, the subcompact sedan witnessed a MoM decline of 6%. Like Dzire, Aura is popular among fleet operators. It is priced between Rs 6.44 lakh and 9.39 lakh (both ex-showroom) and based on the Grand i10 Nios.

Honda Amaze
Another subcompact sedan in the top 5 list is Honda Amaze which recorded a monthly volume of 2,639 units in November this year. This led to YoY and MoM degrowths of 32% and 8.69%, respectively. It is priced between Rs 7.1 lakh and Rs 9.95 lakh (both ex-showroom).
Tata Tigor
Tata Tigor is the only other subcompact sedan currently on sale in India. It is also the only sedan in Tata’s lineup. It recorded a monthly volume of 1,775 units which resulted in a significant 59% YoY drop and a 13.56% MoM growth. It is priced between Rs 6.30 and Rs 8.95 lakh (both ex-showroom).
Skoda Slavia
Skoda Slavia is the only mid-size sedan in the top 5 list of sedans. The Czech carmaker sold 1,748 units of Slavia last month which led to a 13.50% drop in YoY sales and a 10% decline in MoM sales. It is priced between Rs 10.89 lakh to Rs 19.12 lakh (both ex-showroom).
