April 2025 was a challenging month for Maruti Suzuki as it saw an 8% decline month-on-month and a 1% growth year-on-year. Earlier at an earnings call, Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava had said that the industry projection for this year is barely 1-2% as compared to previous years, with a growth of 8-9%. He further explained that with small cars getting unaffordable due to high-cost regulatory measures, only 12% of the entire population are actual car buyers. On that note, the breakup of Maruti Suzuki’s sales figures also backs this up as the best-selling vehicle in April for the company was not an SUV, but the Dzire.

Maruti Suzuki April sales break-up

Maruti Suzuki registered total domestic sales of 1,38,704 units in April 2025. This is a slight increase from the previous year’s 1,37,952 units. What is even more disturbing for the company is that in March 2025, it managed sales of 1,50,743 units. Paving the way forward for the company was not an SUV, but one of the safest sedans on the market, the Dzire. It clocked 16,996 units as compared to March’s 15,460 units, witnessing a 10% growth. In April 2024, the Dzire registered 15,825 units, which shows that it grew by over 7%.

The most popular compact SUV, the Brezza, took the second spot with 16,971 units as compared to March’s 16,546 units. With 3% month-on-month growth, the SUV saw a minor dip of 1% year-on-year.

The Ertiga cemented the third spot with a month-on-month decline of around 6%. It registered 15,780 units in April as compared to March’s 16,804 units, but saw a massive 17% growth year-on-year as it clocked 13,544 units in the same period last year.

The sporty hatchback’s latest generation was launched last year, and the Swift saw an unprecedented growth of 256% year-on-year. Last month, it clocked 14,592 units as compared to last year’s 4,094 units. A more realistic growth would be that it saw a 17% drop last month as compared to March 2025.

The final top five position goes to the crossover, the Fronx, with 14,345 units in April 2025. Month-on-month, the Fronx saw an almost 5% growth as it sold 13,669 units. Year-on-year figures saw a shade bump of under 0.5%.
