Kia has officially revealed the name of its upcoming compact SUV and contrary to previous reports, it will be called “Syros”. Although Kia did file a trademark application for the “Syros” nameplate in April last year, we believed it could possibly be named Clavis. The Korean carmaker has cleared the air by sharing a teaser of the SUV confirming its name.
Although the short teaser video shows a partial glimpse of the vehicle at the end, it isn’t enough to gauge any specific details. Further, the video doesn’t reveal any information about the launch of this vehicle, although we believe it could make its debut as soon as the new year breaks cover.
Kia Syros: Expected design
As previously teased, the Kia Syros adopts a bold, boxy design language. Tall pillars, a flat roofline, and squarish, flared-up wheel arches contribute to its muscular stance, despite its compact dimensions. Sharp cuts, creases, and a clamshell bonnet further accentuate its aggressive appearance.

The rear profile features distinctive L-shaped LED taillights integrated into the D-pillars, complemented by a flat tailgate and rear bumper reflectors. Up front, the Syros showcases prominent L-shaped LED DRLs on the side of the bumper and large air intakes. Functional roof rails add to its utilitarian appeal. To complete the sporty look, Kia will equip the Syros with dual-tone machine-cut alloy wheels.
Kia Syros: Expected interiors & features
Recent spy shots have offered a glimpse into the Kia Syros’s interior. Key features include a modern, driver-focused cockpit with a two-spoke, flat-bottom, multifunction steering wheel. The dashboard houses a twin-screen setup, reminiscent of other contemporary Kia models, providing a digital interface for infotainment and instrument cluster functions.
Additional expected amenities include advanced lighting technology, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera system, automatic wipers, smartphone connectivity, and a high-quality audio system.
Kia Syros: Expected powertrain
While specific powertrain details for the Kia Syros are still pending, it’s highly likely that the SUV will share engine and transmission options with the Sonet. This could include a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, and a 1.5-liter diesel engine. Transmission choices may range from a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 6-speed AMT, and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
