Skoda Superb has made its return to India in an updated avatar. In its fourth-generation, Skoda discontinued its flagship sedan in India a couple of years ago due to poor sales. A facelift of the fourth-gen Superb model made its global debut in November last year before hitting the roads in United Kingdom earlier last month.

Earlier available as a locally assembled CKD model, the Superb now comes to India as a fully-imported CBU model, and hence carries a hefty price tag of Rs 54 lakh (ex-showroom). Only the top-spec ‘L&K’ variant of the Superb will be available for the Indian market. Bookings for only 100 units of the D-segment sedan are open initially.

Skoda Superb: Exterior Design

Overall design of the updated Skoda Superb remains largely unchanged. It gets a slightly revised yet recognisable butterfly front grille flanked by sleek LED Matrix beam headlights with integrated LED DRLs. The front bumper is redesigned which houses a wider and sleeker air dam, giving it a cleaner look.

The revised bumpers house sleek LED fog lamps nestled within the blacked-out air dam with mesh pattern. Side profile remains largely unchanged with a prominent shoulder line, barring the new 17-inch alloy wheel design. At the rear, the sedan gets sleeker LED taillights with crystalline elements, a redesigned boot lid and an Audi-inspired bumper. Skoda is offering the updated Superb in three shades namely– Rosso Brunello, Water World Green, and Magic Black.

Skoda Superb: Interiors & features

The interiors of the new India-spec Superb is different from the international-spec model which recently made its debut. Essentially the former retains features and layout from the Superb discontinued two years ago. The most notable difference is the lack of a larger 13-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system. Instead, the Superb in India makes do with a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment display.

Skoda has maintained the richness of the cabin with its expansive equipment. Some of the features on offer are LED fog lights with cornering function, fully-digital instrument console, wireless phone charging, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto,12-way electrically adjustable front seats with ventilation function, and massage function for the driver seat. Also up for offer will be Cognac upholstery, three-zone climate control, virtual cockpit, TPMS, park assist with a 360-degree camera.

Skoda Superb: Powertrain specs

Contrary to previous reports and predictions, Skoda isn’t offering the new Superb with a diesel engine in India. The flagship sedan is powered exclusively by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, TSI petrol motor which churns out 188 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.7 seconds.
