Rimac Automobili has secured its name in the Guinness World Book of Records. The company’s all-electric hypercar– Nevera recently became the fastest car to move backwards. The Croatian supercar brand shared its success on its social media handles. The test was conducted at the Automotive Testing Papenburg Centre in Germany, featuring two 4 km straights.

Rimac Nevera: Fastest car in reverse

The Nevera already holds the distinction of being the fastest electric car in the world and now the battery-powered hypercar recorded the highest top speed of 275.74 km/h (171.34 mph) in reverse. Nevera broke the previous world record of Caterham 7 Fireblade which recorded a top speed of 165 km/h while sprinting backwards in 2001.

The Guinness World Records representative formally approved the new highest speed in reverse record. Behind the wheels of the hypercar was test driver Goran Drndak. Earlier in May this year, Rimac set 23 performance world records in a single day thus, establishing Nevera as the fastest electric hypercar. In addition, Rimac Group won the speed title at Nürburgring in August, beating the lap record by a production EV by 20 seconds.

Speaking on this feat, Drndak said, “On the run itself, it definitely took some getting used to. You’re facing straight out backward, watching the scenery flash away from you faster and faster, feeling your neck pulled forwards in almost the same sensation you would normally get under heavy braking.”

This groundbreaking achievement was made possible by Nevera’s innovative design and drivetrain, comprising four individual electric motors for each wheel that power the car based on the direction they’re rotating. Further, absence of a traditional gearbox ensures that all power and torque is available from the moment the driver steps on the accelerator pedal.

Powering Rimac Nevera is a quad-motor setup that draws energy from a 120 kWh battery. This power unit belts out 1,914 PS of power and a peak torque of 2,360 Nm. As for performance, the Nevera can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.74 seconds, has a quarter mile pace of 8.25 seconds, and can breach a top speed of 412 km/h (256 mph).
