With an average sales of around 10,000 units per month, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara can be considered as a success. It is very well known that Maruti doesn’t have a strong say when it comes to safety. The company is often an object for trolls on social media whenever a Maruti car meets with an accident.

The Indo-Japanese carmaker is making a concerted effort to change its image. Until now, Brezza, formerly known as Vitara Brezza, is considered to be the safest Maruti on sale currently. Based on the Global C platform, the Brezza scored a 4-star safety rating in the Global NCAP back in 2018. Although it was based on the old regime of Global NCAP.

The Grand Vitara is underpinned by the same Global C architecture and certain media reports suggest that the mid-size SUV has undergone crash tests at Bharat NCAP. A video uploaded on YouTube by vlogger Prateek Singh has leaked images from the Bharat NCAP where battered and bruised units of Grand Vitara are seen undergoing various crash tests.

However, there are no official details of the same mentioned on the Bharat NCAP website. Hence, we cannot confirm the exact details of the scores from the various individual tests nor the overall adult or child occupant safety rating.  Further, it also can’t be confirmed at this point which variant of the Grand Vitara was crash tested by Bharat NCAP.

Since it is based on the Global C architecture, there are high chances that Grand Vitara might attain at least an overall 4-star safety rating if not a 5-star rating.  Further, the crash test regulations of Bharat NCAP are more or less in line with the Global NCAP, so we don’t expect too many changes in the result from the Vitara Brezza.

Snippets from the YouTube video reveal images from the frontal impact test, side impact test, and most importantly side pole test. The pole test conducted indicates that the Grand Vitara may have achieved an overall 5-star safety rating since the pole test is optional and conducted only after the carmaker requests to do so.
