Renault appoints Duncan Minto as Interim Chief Executive Officer

Former Renault CEO Luca de Meo stepped down from his role after his decision to switch to the fashion industry.

Renault Group has announced Duncan Minto as Chief Executive Officer of Renault S.A  effective from 15 July 2025 for an interim period until the appointment of the new CEO is confirmed. 

Last month, the French carmaker confirmed that Luca de Meo decided to step down from the role of company CEO in order to pursue new challenges outside the automotive sector. Luca de Meo joined Renault in 2020 from Volkswagen when the French company was staring at the barrel with sales hitting an all-time low and economy-crunching pandemic breathing down its neck.

Taking tough decisions like making the company more linear and cutting down on the workforce, Renault managed to bounce back under Luca’s tenure. As Renault’s major market is Europe, it was one of the few manufacturers that was not affected by the latest US automobile tariffs.  

Renault Interim CEO Duncan Minto career

Currently CFO of Renault Group, Duncan Minto will ensure the day-to-day management of the company alongside Jean-Dominique Senard, who will hold the position of Chairman of Renault s.a.s., the operating company of the Group, during this period. Part of the Renault Group since 1997, Duncan has a solid experience in finance and a deep understanding of the issues at stake.

Duncan Minto, born in 1975, is a graduate of the University of St Andrews in Scotland. He began his career with Renault Group in the United Kingdom in. In 2001, he transitioned to the Group’s Finance Department in France, where he was responsible for investor relations.

In 2006, Mr. Minto was appointed Finance Director of Renault-Nissan Portugal. He later assumed the role of Managing Director at Renault Ireland in 2012, followed by his appointment as Chief Financial Officer for the Group’s Asia-Pacific region in 2013. In 2017, he was promoted to Vice President, Finance – Group Control Analysis.

Continuing his leadership trajectory, he was named Chief Financial Officer of Dacia in 2022 and, subsequently, CFO of the Alpine brand in 2023. On March 1, 2025, Duncan Minto was appointed Chief Finance Officer of Renault Group and joined the company’s Leadership Team.

Renault in its latest release stated that the selection process for the new CEO is already well underway, which is overseen by the Governance and Remuneration Committee of the Board of Directors. The next big update from the French carmaker will be its half-year results that will be published on July 31.
