Porsche is one of the few supercar brands that is looking at an all-electric future in some years to come and the signs are already showing. The German marque has discontinued the S and GTS variants of the petrol-powered Macan in India.
The company has removed both petrol variants of the SUV from the Porsche India website and now lists the base petrol variant along with the battery-powered variants of the Macan including the standard, 4S, and Turbo. Prior to the update, the Macan range was offered in three petrol and three all-electric derivatives.
No more Porsche Macan petrol
The Stuttgart-based performance carmaker is phasing out the Macan petrol from other international markets as well. Most notably, the company discontinued the Macan petrol in the European Union in April last year. Production for the fossil fueled Macan is expected to be shelved completely by next year.
The standard Macan, priced at Rs 96.95 lakh, is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that pushed out 261 bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque. The S and GTS variants were powered by a larger 2.9-litre unit that churned out 375 bhp and 444 bhp, respectively. The S variant was priced at Rs 1.45 crore whereas the latter came at a cost of Rs 1.53 crore (all prices ex-showroom).
Prices for the Macan electric range starts from Rs 1.22 crore and goes up to Rs 1.69 crore (both ex-showroom). The top of the line Macan GTS comes with a dual-motor setup that dishes out 578 bhp and up to 1,130 Nm of peak torque. Using the Overboost function, peak power output jumps to 630 bhp with a top speed of 260 kmph. The electric SUV can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in a rapid 3.3 seconds.
