Mercedes-Benz India is expected to introduce the new E-Class after GST (Goods and Services Tax) implementation by the Government of India which is speculated to be announced in April 2017. The GST implementation will help the carmaker price the sixth-generation E-Class competitively that will rival the Audi A6, Jaguar XF, Volvo S90 and BMW 5 Series. Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the luxury sedan at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show.

Although, Mercedes-Benz has not revealed the exact figures and engine options, but we expect the 2017 E-Class to get a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines that will be able to produce around 241 hp of power. The company might also launch a higher-spec model with a six-cylinder inline motor. The engines will be paired to a nine-speed automatic gearbox sending power to the rear wheels.

Based on the MRA (Modular Rear Architecture) platform, the new E-Class will be lighter in weight and bigger than the current model due to the intensive use of aluminium for the body construction. The MRA platform was first used on the new C-Class, which is available internationally. The company might also increase the wheelbase of the luxury sedan that will result in increased cabin space.

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class will resemble of the new C-Class and will share the same exterior features such as the chrome surrounded front grille and aggressively designed headlamps with daytime running lamps. The interiors will boast of new design and features like leather upholstery, a dual-zone automatic climate control, COMAND infotainment system with a touchscreen and 4G connectivity.
