Meet the first Maruti Suzuki vehicle to score top marks in the Global NCAP Safety assessment, the new-generation Dzire. The compact sedan scored a five-star rating for adult and a four-star rating child occupancy safety. After releasing the Dzire’s crash test results, David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation said, “The new Dzire’s five-star rating sets a significant safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki compared to the previous version of this model and others from Maruti we have tested.” He further added, “We are optimistic that going forward Maruti will seek to achieve this high level of safety performance across their model range. If they do, it will be a vehicle safety game changer for Indian consumers.”
Maruti Suzuki will be launching the new fourth-generation Dzire on November 11.
Global NCAP safety test: New Dzire vs Old
Maruti Suzuki’s new Dzire structure and footwell area were rated as stable and can withstand further loadings. The new sedan is packed with safety features and comes standard with 6 airbags, 3-point seat belts for all seats, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Hold Assist, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors and ISOFIX child seat anchorages. The chest of the driver dummy in the frontal test showed marginal protection. The pole test showed full head protection, and the side impact test showed full protection for the adult occupants. Hence, the new Dzire scored a 5-star rating for both adult and child occupants. The 18-month-old dummy showed full protection, and the three-year-old dummy showed good protection to the head and chest while neck protection could be improved by installing a rearward-facing CRS. Side impact protection for child occupants showed full protection.
The outgoing third-generation Dzire had earlier received two stars for adult occupant protection and two stars for child occupant protection. This model offers two frontal airbags and ESC as standard. The structure and footwell area were rated as unstable. The side impact test showed weak protection to the dummy chest and the pole test was not performed as this model does not offer side head protection, even as an option.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire Global NCAP safety test: Adult Occupant Protection
The new-generation Dzire scored 31.24 points out of 34 points. The sedan managed to score high marks because the front impact results revealed that the Dzire offers good head and neck protection for the driver and the front passenger. While the driver’s chest showed marginal protection and the passenger’s chest showed adequate protection, the knees were well protected. What is important to note is that the footwell area and the bodyshell were rated as stable and it is capable of withstanding further loadings. ESC, which comes standard, performed on an acceptable level according to Global NCAP.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire Global NCAP safety test: Child Occupant Protection
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire scored 39.20 out of 49 points in the Global NCAP safety test. During the assessment, the ISOFIX-mounted child seat for a 3-year-old, installed in a forward-facing position, effectively prevented excessive forward movement during the frontal impact, providing full protection to the head and chest. However, it offered limited protection to the neck.
For the 18-month-old child seat, installed rearward-facing with the ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg, the system successfully prevented head exposure during the frontal impact, offering complete protection to the head and body.
