Mahindra & Mahindra has its annual investor’s meet today where the company revealed details about its future goals. As expected, Mahindra has plenty in store especially for its passenger vehicle segment for the next five years. The Chakan-based carmaker announced a series of updates, the biggest of them all is the development of a brand new vehicle platform.

It is already known that Mahindra has an SUV dominated portfolio and is one of the few mass market automakers to offer ladder-on-frame SUVs like Thar,  Thar Roxx, Scorpio N, and others. At the same time, it offers monocoque vehicles such as XUV 3XO and XUV700. The homegrown automaker has announced that the new platform will be unveiled later this year on 15 August.

Called the New Flexible Architecture (NFA), this platform will be built at Mahindra new facility in Chakan. Expected to be a monocoque architecture, the NFA will be a modular platform that will be capable of underpinning a wide variety of models powered by petrol, diesel, hybrid or all-electric powertrain. This new multi-energy architecture will most probably make its debut on a concept vehicle on the coming Independence Day.

Boost in manufacturing capacity

Mahindra plans to sell 1.2 lakh units annually underpinning the new NFA platform. The carmaker has announced that the platform will be fully operational by fiscal year 2026, with an initial ramp-up adding 3,000 units. This expanded capacity will support the production of newly launched models such as the XUV 3XO and Thar Roxx, which are experiencing strong consumer demand.

This expansion forms a key part of Mahindra’s long-term strategy to grow its SUV lineup, which includes plans to launch seven new internal combustion engine (ICE) SUVs and five electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030. While the company has yet to reveal which models will utilize the new platform, it is anticipated to be instrumental in meeting rising demand and shortening wait times for popular models such as the Thar, XUV700, and Scorpio-N.

Alongside the Chakan facility upgrade, Mahindra is also preparing to set up a new greenfield plant exclusively for passenger vehicles. Targeted to become operational by FY28, details about the plant’s location and capacity are still under wraps. The company has stated that it is evaluating various state-level incentives and subsidies to support the project.
