As Maruti Suzuki gears up to launch the fourth-gen Swift in India, units of the latest iteration of Swift have started reaching dealerships across the country. Scheduled for a market launch on 9 May, the new-gen Swift has been spied on numerous occasions over the past one year.
Ahead of its official launch later this week, a few videos of the new Swift uploaded on YouTube show units of the new-gen sporty hatchback inside dealership yards. Like the outgoing model, the new-gen Swift will be available in five variants— LXi, VXi, VXi(O), ZXi, and ZXi (O).
In this story, we’ll take a look at the mid-spec VXi trim of the new Swift, what features it gets and features it misses out on, and what would make it the most value for money (VFM) variant. A video courtesy YouTube channel Wheels Escort shows details of the VXi trim of Swift.
New-gen Maruti Swift VXi: What it misses out on?
Starting with its exterior, the VXi trim of the new-gen Swift gets almost the same looks as the top-spec ZXi trim but the former misses out on fog lamps. Further, the headlights are bulb units unlike the top-spec trim and it also misses out on integrated LED DRLs, instead it gets chrome inserts. At the rear, the taillight assembly is all-new and same as the top-end variant but again gets a bulb unit.
The rear windshield misses out on a wiper and only gets a defogger. The VXi trim rolls on 14-inch steel wheels instead of the 16-inch, dual-tone, machine-cut alloys seen in the ZXi trim. Other features the new-gen Swift misses out on are as a free-standing a shark-fin antenna a head-up display, power folding ORVMs, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree parking camera with dash cam support, and cruise control.

New-gen Maruti Swift VXi: What it gets?
While the Swift VXi misses out on auto folding ORVMs, the rear view mirrors are power adjustable. Instead of a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the Swift Vxi will get a smaller 7-inch touchscreen unit from the outgoing model. It gets a semi-digital instrument console featuring a digital MID flanked by two analog dials.
Other notable features included in Swift VXi are automatic climate control, steering-mounted audio controls, and push-button start/stop. In terms of safety, the Swift VXi is expected to offer twin airbags, rear parking sensors, electronic stability program, and ABS with EBD.

As you can see, the VXi variant covers all the bases and offers more than the necessities. Any other upgrade can be installed as an accessory from the aftermarket. The vlogger mentions that Maruti will price the SWift VXi trim at Rs 7.40 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes it the best VFM option for the Swift lineup.
New-gen Maruti Swift VXi: Powertrain options
Like the top-spec Swift, the VXi trim of Swift will be powered by a brand new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z-series petrol mill. Codenamed Z12E, this motor will also be available with a mild hybrid setup as a standard fitment across all variants of the new Swift. This unit is likely to churn out 81 bhp and 112 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties will be carried out by a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox.
