For almost four and a half decades since its debut in 1979, the G-Wagon has been a benchmark for luxury 4×4 lifestyle vehicles. Mercedes-Benz intends to continue this legacy with the upcoming EQG. The German marque has unveiled the all-electric version of G-Wagon in India thus confirming its launch in the country sometime in the future.

The Concept EQG combines its iconic origin and uncompromising off-road capabilities with futuristic elements of the Mercedes-Benz world. Visually, the concept car combines the look of the G-Class with selected design elements, typical of all-electric models from Mercedes as contrasting highlights. This includes the boxy profile with a flat roofline and tall pillars, round headlamps, and a sealed-off nose featuring an illuminated front faux grille.

Mercedes Benz EQG: Expected powertrain specs

The German marque hasn’t yet confirmed powertrain details for the upcoming G-Wagon Electric but during the video Schossau mentioned that the prototype gets four motors with each motor powering an individual wheel which allows each wheel to access the torque whenever and wherever required during challenging off-road situations.

Mercedes is expected to offer multiple battery options with the upcoming G-Wagon Electric with different ranges to consider. That said, a minimum of 300 km all-electric range is warranted for a vehicle like G-Wagon which means a battery capacity in the range of 90-100 kWh for such a large vehicle is a no brainer.
