Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for the Maybach S-Class in India. The German marque has recalled 386 units of the Maybach S680 and 1 unit of the standard S-Class. The affected W223 lineup is currently on sale in the market since its launch in 2021. As per the SIAM voluntary recall website, Merc has issued a recall on 27 November 2024.
The affected units of Maybach S-Class were manufactured between 29 April 2021 and 27 January 2024, whereas the regular S-Class recalled was manufactured on 21 April 2021. The SIAM website reveals the reason behind the latest recall was prompted by the software in the luxury sedan’s engine control unit (ECU) which does not meet the current specifications.
Mercedes-Benz S-Class recall details
The failure of the ECU could increase exhaust temperatures and damage surrounding components like engine wiring harness and catalytic converter. This could potentially lead to a loss of propulsion without prior warning and an increased risk of fire cannot be ruled out. Mercedes dealerships are expected to reach out to owners of the affected cars to notify them about the recall and to schedule an appointment to rectify the issue.

The faulty ECU will most likely be replaced free of cost. This isn’t the first time this year Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for the S-Class range. Earlier in May, the German brand called back 586 units of the S-Class manufactured between 24 June 2021 and 27 January 2024. That recall was prompted by the fuel delivery module of the vehicle which did not meet specifications which could have led to the vehicle spontaneously losing propulsion thereby increasing the risk of accident or injury.
The standard Mercedes-Benz S-Class is currently priced at Rs 1.77 – 1.86 crore, whereas the top-spec Maybach S680 4Matic is priced at Rs 2.72 crore (all prices ex-showroom).
