Mercedes-Benz has issued a series of recalls this year in India. Most of the recalls issued in the last few weeks by the German marque involve the E-Class and its various derivatives. These include previous-gen AMG E 63 S, E 53 4Matic+, the standard E-Class, and the currently available CLE Cabriolet along with the standard E Class.
Mercedes-Benz E Class recall
The German marque has recalled 20 units of the E 53 4Matic+ manufactured between 21 January 2021 and 20 January 2023. 50 units of AMG E 63 S have been recalled which were produced between 14 September 2022 and 12 October 2023. The company has also recalled 2543 units of the standard E Class manufactured between 29 April 2022 and 20 August 2024.

All three models based on the E-Class have been recalled for the same reason. On the SIAM website, Mercedes has disclosed that the electrical connector coupling for the transmission wiring harness may not meet current specifications. This could allow water to seep into the connector over time, potentially causing a short circuit. If this occurs, the short circuit could lead to thermal overload of the connector while the vehicle is parked, increasing the risk of a thermal incident.
Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet recall
Besides the E Class and its stronger derivatives, Mercedes-Benz has also issued the CLE Cabriolet in India manufactured between 13 April 2024 and 24 June 2024. 59 units of the convertible luxury car have been affected by this recall. Mercedes has discovered that the warning label indicating the unavailability of the automatic front passenger airbag shutoff may have been inadvertently omitted from the side wall of the instrument panel.

As a result, there is a risk that users may mistakenly assume a rearward-facing child seat on the front passenger seat would be automatically detected, leading to improper installation. Since the front passenger airbag remains permanently active in these vehicles, affixing a child seat in this position is not advised, as it could increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash with airbag deployment.
