Mercedes-Benz India has launched the facelifted version of the GLE SUV at a starting price of Rs 96.4 lakh. The Mercedes-Benz GLE price in India is introductory. The GLE is one of Mercedes-Benz India’s most popular SUV models and is slotted in between the GLC and the GLS. The facelifted version of the Mercedes-Benz GLE gets a new front bumper, slightly revised grille to differentiate the variants, new LED headlamps, and a new design for the 21-inch alloy wheels.
The interiors of the GLE have been refreshed, the highlight of which is the new MBUX infotainment system and additional safety package. The new multifunction steering wheel comes with haptic touch-sensitive controls which are also seen on the S-Class and GLC.

The GLE comes in three variants: The 300D, 450 and 450D variants. The 300D is a diesel four-cylinder motor that puts out 269 bhp of power and 550 Nm of torque. The 450D is a six-cylinder motor that puts out 367 bhp and 750 Nm of torque, while the petrol 450 version puts out 380 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. All come mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and 4-matic all-wheel drive that sends power to all four wheels.
In addition, they come with a mild-hybrid system with a 48-volt starter-generator that not only handles start-stop functions, but also gives an additional boost of power of up to 20 bhp and 200 Nm of torque when needed.
In terms of features, the GLE features an interior that resembles the larger GLS. It gets a choice of ventilated leather front seats, with both heating and cooling. It sports 9 airbags as part of its safety kit. Blind-spot monitoring, 360-degree camera with an AI view facility that makes it look like there’s a transparent bonnet, adaptive cruise control, 15-speaker Burmeister sound system are all part of the package. Adaptive air suspension on the 450s and a built-in air purifier are a few other creature comforts.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE is pitted against the BMW X5, the Audi Q7 and Range Rover Velar as its immediate rivals, as well as the Porsche Cayenne. Deliveries of the GLE 450 and GLE 300D will commence in November, while GLE 450D deliveries will take place in the first quarter of 2024. The company is facing a shortage of 48-volt hybrid systems and that has strung out deliveries, even of existing models, leading to long waiting periods.
