Mercedes-Benz had a very eventful 2024 with over a half a dozen crucial product launches in India. The German marque will continue to have a busy year in 2025 as well. It recently came to light that Mercedes will launch the fully-electric G-Wagon in the country on January 9 but we have now come to know that it won’t be the only product to make its debut that day.
According to a recent media report, Mercedes-Benz will also launch a 5-seater version of the EQS electric SUV on the same day. Officially called EQS 450, this is the second variant of the EQS SUV range (apart from the Maybach version) to come to India. The current EQS 580 4Matic SUV is available with a seven-seat configuration.
Mercedes-Benz EQS 450: Powertrain
The new EQS 450 SUV will be powered by the same 122 kWh battery pack as its seven-seater sibling. It is currently the largest claimed cell capacity for any passenger EV in India. This battery will deliver energy to a twin-motor setup producing 538 bhp and 858 Nm of peak torque. The battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 31 minutes using a 200kW DC fast charger.

Mercedes-Benz EQS 450: Exterior & Interiors
The entry-level EQS SUV will maintain its familiar design, featuring a blanked-off grille and LED headlamps connected by a light bar. It also carries forward the same aerodynamic silhouette as the EQS 580, while the 21-inch alloy wheels sport a new design.
Inside the cabin, the biggest change noticed will be the different seating configuration which will allow more legroom and kneeroom for the rear-seat occupants, thus offering a more comfortable back seat experience. Also, it is expected to offer a larger boot which means better practicality.
In terms of features, it is likely to remain the same as EQS 580 with highlights such as a 56-inch Hyperscreen setup comprising a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and front passenger screen and a 17.7-inch central touchscreen infotainment, a 5-speaker Burmester audio system, 360-degree camera, 5-zone automatic climate control, twin 11.6-inch rear entertainment screens, and more. Safety features will include nine airbags, Level 2 ADAS and more.

Mercedes-Benz EQS 450: Expected price
The upcoming EQS 450 SUV will cater to buyers seeking extra cabin space, especially the chauffeur-driven. Like its seven-seat sibling, the EQS 450 will be locally assembled in India through CKD kits. The current EQS 580 is priced at Rs 1.41 crore (ex-showroom). Expect the upcoming variant to be slightly more affordable than the existing trim.
