Mercedes AMG S 63 E-Performance launched in India at Rs 3.30 crore

The Mercedes AMG S 63 E-Performance doesn’t have a direct rival and comes to India as a direct import under the CBU route.

Mercedes-Benz has launched the new AMG S 63 E-Performance in India with prices starting from Rs 3.30 crore (ex-showroom). This marks the return of the high-performance AMG S-class to the Indian market after a span of almost five years. Besides the standard AMG S 63 E-Performance, the German marque has launched a limited run ‘Edition 1’ in the country.

Priced at Rs 3.80 crore (ex-showroom), this limited edition AMG S 63 E-Performance comes with additional cosmetic enhancements in the exterior as well as interiors over the standard model. 

Mercedes AMG S 63 E-Performance: Exterior

Mercedes has retained the overall shape and silhouette of the S-Class. Up front, the S 63 E-Performance get the AMG-specific Panamericana grille with three-pointed logo at the centre, and a sportier bumper housing side skirts on each side finished in gloss black with a thin line of chrome. The side profile remains identical to the standard S-Class barring the 21-inch forged AMG wheels.

Further amplifying the sportiness are the red brake callipers housed within the 21-inch wheels At the rear, sporty rear diffuser, which integrates dual trapezoidal tailpipes on both sides.

Mercedes AMG S 63 E-Performance: Interiors & features

Inside the cabin, the biggest highlight is the dashboard layout which is familiar to the standard S-Class. However, the all-black theme and carbon fibre treatment of the dashboard creates a noticeable distinction. Further, the bespoke interiors give the AMG S-Class the much-needed exclusivity. 

The seats are wrapped in AMG Exclusive Nappa leather. Other visual enhancements include a new AMG-specific dual-spoke steering wheel and red topstitching on the upholstery. In terms of equipment, the AMG S 63 E-Performance is loaded to the gills with features such as a 12.8-inch MBUX infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an updated 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, 64-colour ambient lighting, a Burmester 3D surround sound system, and 4-zone climate control to name a few.

Since it’s afterall an S-Class, focus remains at the rear seats, and therefore buyers can opt for a rear seat entertainment package, augmented reality heads-up display with 3D graphics, and executive lounge seats.

Mercedes AMG S 63 E-Performance: Powertrain specs

Powering the AMG S 63 E-Performance is a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine paired with plug-in-hybrid technology featuring a 13.1 kWh battery. The combined output from this powertrain stands at a mammoth 791 bhp and 1,430 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are carried out by a 9-speed automatic gearbox which sends power to all four wheels via the 4Matic system.

The gearbox features a special ‘Race Start’ function that optimises launch. As for performance, the high-performance S-Class can clock a top speed of 250 kmph and can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.3 seconds. At the same time, it can run on pure EV mode for 33 km. Further, the luxury sports sedan benefits from a rear-axle steering with a maximum steering angle of 3.0 degrees.

Mercedes AMG S 63 E-Performance ‘Edition 1’: What’s new?

For a premium of Rs 50 lakh, the limited-run Edition 1 of the AMG S 63 E-Performance gets plenty of additional goodies. For starters, the exterior of Edition 1 is wrapped in MANUFAKTUR Alpine grey solid shade. In this variant, the 21-inch forged AMG wheels are finished in matte black.

Inside the cabin, the headrests are embossed with AMG crests. The centre console houses an ‘Edition 1’ plaque to give it a touch of exclusivity. Another prominent highlight is the AMG illuminated door sill panels with “AMG” lettering and exchangeable cover featuring Edition-specific illumination in red.
