The 2024 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E Performance breaks cover and in typical AMG fashion, the wise people from Affalterbach decided to up the ante in just about everything. The droptop stunner is powered by the colossus 4-litre V8 Biturbo engine and AMG Electric Drive Unit that produce 798 bhp combined and up to 1,419 Nm of torque. It is the same plug-in hybrid engine that also powers the GT 63 S E Performance and S 63 E Performance trims.
SL 63 S E Performance: Engine
The 2024 SL 63 S E Performance get 4-litre V8 Biturbo engine which churns out 596bhp and the electric drive unit on the rear axle has an output of 198bhp and 320Nm. According to the German manufacturer, the SL 63 S E Performance does 0-100 kmph in 2.8 seconds. The SL 63 S E Performance has a top speed of 318 kmph. It also comes with a 6.1 kWh battery located in the rear above the rear axle.
The engine is mated to a nine-speed transmission while the synchronous electric motor has a two-speed transmission and limited-slip rear differential. It comes standard with 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive and eight drive modes —Electric, Battery Hold, Comfort, Slippery, Sport, Sport+, Race and Individual.Â
SL 63 S E Performance: Design and Cabin
The 2024 SL 63 SE Performance gets an integrated charging port door for the hybrid system, distinctive trapezoidal twin tailpipe trims and a choice of 20-or 21-inch rims. Being an AMG, the droptop comes with multiple customization options including equipment and paint options. The droptop comes standard with Active Ride Control suspension with active roll stabilization. It has ceramic composite brake system as standard that features bronze-painted 6-piston fixed calipers at the front and 1-piston floating calipers at the rear.
The SL 63 S E Performance is equipped standard with active rear-axle steering. The 2+2 seater has a dashboard with a portrait-designed cockpit including the MBUX infotainment system. It is equipped with electrically adjustable AMG sports seats and offers optional AMG Performance seats with integrated headrests and ventilated seats. It also has three massage modes. There is a selection of upholstery choices including single and two-tone Nappa leather.
