Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading automobile manufacturer, has issued a recall for 2,555 units of the Alto K10 owing to a potentially faulty steering gearbox assembly. The company has also declared that authorized dealers will contact customers to arrange a complimentary vehicle inspection and replacement of the component at no cost.

Maruti Suzuki released a statement saying — “Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced to recall 2,555 Alto K10 vehicles wherein it is suspected that there is a possible defect in Steering Gear Box Assembly (“Part”)”. The company has also advised owners of possible affected not the drive the car till it’s thoroughly inspected and the part replaced. Maruti Suzuki has also said that this is a precautionary measure keeping in mind the safety of the car owner and the passengers.
The official statement by Maruti Suzuki read, “The said defect, in a rare case, may affect the vehicle steerability. Out of abundant caution, customers of the affected vehicles are advised not to drive or use the vehicle till the Part is replaced.”
This is Maruti Suzuki’s second recall this year. In March 2024, the company recalled over 11,851 units of the Baleno and 4,190 Wagon R units manufactured between 30 July and 1 November 2019, over a possible defect in the fuel pump motor.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 sales
The Alto, previously India’s top-selling car, ranked as the twentieth best-selling vehicle in July 2024. Maruti Suzuki sold 7,353 units of the Alto last month, marking a 5 per cent decrease from the 7,776 units sold in June 2024. Year-on-year comparison shows that the Alto K10 had registered sales of 7,099 units in July 2023.
Maruti Suzuki relaunched the Alto K10 in 2022 and is powered by 998 cc with 66 bhp and 89 Nm of torque. It is available with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox. It is priced from Rs 3.99 lakh to Rs 5.96 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi.
