The Maruti Suzuki-Toyota partnership continues to be fruitful with yet another product launch, this time, the Toyota Taisor, based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. Launched at Rs 7.74 lakh onwards ex-showroom, making it the most affordable Toyota on sale in India today.

Since the Fronx and Taisor are the same, one could wonder why bother, however, there are differences between the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and the Toyota Taisor. Here are the differences and similarities explained.

The two crossovers share the same chassis and platform, while also having identical dimensions and overall design language. The interior is also identical, apart from the choice of shades used for the dash. The Taisor gets the same 9-inch infotainment system with Arkamys sound system with wireless smartphone connectivity and navigation.

In terms of safety, both, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and the Toyota Taisor get 360-degree camera, ESP, hill-hold, six airbags, ABS, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and more.

The Fronx and Taisor also share the same powertrain, a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine that makes 88.5 bhp and 113 Nm of torque, and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 99 bhp and 147.6 Nm of peak torque. Gearbox options include a manual, AMT, and an automatic torque converter.

While the two share almost everything in common, there are a few changes that set them apart. The biggest change is in the design elements, as the Taisor gets a honeycomb grille, while the DRLs are sleeker on the Toyota compared to the Fronx’s three-pot design. Towards the rear, the Taisor get sleek tail lamps again, that are connected.

Overall, the design elements may look subtle, but they all add to give the Toyota Taisor a fresh look, enough to differentiate it from its Maruti Suzuki sibling.
