Recently, it was reported that Suzuki launched the Fronx in Japan which receives Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). Interestingly, the Japan-spec Fronx is manufactured in India at Suzuki Motor Group (SMG) located in Hansalpur. However, the India-spec Fronx misses out on ADAS. There is a possibility this might change in the future.

A test mule of Fronx with an ADAS sensor up front was caught on cameras recently. The partially camouflages prototype was seen with a front parking camera, and ADAS sensor embedded within the blacked-out front grille and flanked by the signature split LED lighting setup up front.

On a closer look, we notice that a radar-based ADAS sensor system is housed within a V-shaped quadrilateral module which indicates the possibility of Level 2 ADAS features. At this point of time, it is difficult to comment if the unit of Fronx spotted is an export model for Japan or is it the upcoming updated India-spec Fronx since both Japan and India are right hand driven markets.

Besides ADAS, front parking sensors are also not available in the India-spec Fronx as of now but offered in the Japanese market. The latest spy shots confirm the presence of front parking sensors. As of now, Maruti Suzuki doesn’t offer ADAS with any of its models including the rebadged Toyota vehicles like Invicto

However, in a previous conversation with Express Drives, a senior Maruti Suzuki India executive has confirmed that the Indo-Japanese carmaker is looking to introduce ADAS in the India-spec models in the future. Other notable safety features on offer in Fronx on sale in India include up to six airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), hill-hold assist, a 360-degree camera, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

Maruti Fronx: Powertrain specs

The former puts out 89 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque whereas the latter dishes out 99 bhp and 148 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT, and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. There is also a CNG version on sale with a detuned output.
