Toyota is gearing up to launch a new vehicle named Taisor on April 3 which is expected to be based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The Japanese carmaker has officially teased the upcoming vehicle on its social media handles and we can safely presume, given the visuals, that the Taisor will indeed be a rebadged Fronx.
This will be the fourth Maruti-rebadged model to go on sale from Toyota after Glanza (Baleno), the now-discontinued Urban Cruiser (Vitara Brezza), and Rumion (Ertiga). It will also mark Toyota’s return to the subcompact SUV/crossover space after the Urban Cruiser.
Toyota Taisor: Expected styling & features
The teaser reveals quite a few visual details about the Taisor. For instance, the front grille with honeycomb mesh grille looks directly lifted from the Fronx. So do the sleek LED DRLs, and bi-LED projector headlights flanking the front grille. Front and rear bumpers, the scoop on the bonnet, shape of the tailgate, and silhouette looks identical to the Fronx. What looks slightly different are the taillights with a connected LED strip in the middle.

Since it will be built by Maruti itself, Taisor is most likely to get the same interior layout and list of features as Fronx. This includes a 9-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, head-up display, a 360-degree camera, connected tech, Arkamys music system and automatic climate control. Safety package of Taisor will include six airbags, ESP as standard and hill-hold assist control, all three-point seat belts, ISOFIX child seat mounts etc.Â
Toyota Taisor: Expected powertrain specs & price
Like Fronx, Taisor is expected to offer both the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and the 1-litre turbo petrol. The mainstay will be the 1.2-litre which produces 88 bhp and 113 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and an AMT. Based on the Fronx ARAI figures, the Taisor manual should return around 21.79 kmpl and the AMT 22.89 kmpl.
The 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo petrol unit, on the other hand, churns out 99 bhp and 147.6 Nm and comes with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic torque converter with paddle shifters. The manual’s mileage should be in the region of 21.5 kmpl and the automatic 20.01 kmpl.
Maruti offers Fronx at prices between Rs 7.52 lakh and Rs 13.04 lakh (both ex-showroom). We expect the Taisor to get a higher price for its entry-level variant.
