Make in India: Suzuki Baleno becomes the first Maruti car to exported to Japan

Besides Japan, the made-in-India Maruti Suzuki Baleno will be exported to Europe as well.

The first lot of Suzuki Balenos that were exported to the Japanese market earlier this month finally reached the destination on Monday i.e. February 22, 2016. What makes it a really special moment is the fact that it is the first made-in-India Maruti-built car that will be sold in Suzuki Motor Corporation’s home-market.

Developed at the company’s Manesar plant, the made-in-India Maruti Suzuki Baleno will be exported to Europe as well. As a matter of fact, the company plans to export the Baleno to over 100 markets from India.

While the Indian version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno comes with a 1.2-litre K-series petrol and a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel motor, the global model features a 1.0-litre ‘Boosterjet’ turbocharged unit. The same engine will also power the Baleno RS – a hot-hatch version of the car – that will be launched during this year’s festive season. The same car made its India debut at the recently concluded Delhi Auto Expo 2016.

The 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol engine of the Maruti Baleno RS is capable of producing an impressive 112bhp and 175Nm. Besides the Baleno, the company plans to produce several other global products as well for the export markets. The next in-line is the Suzuki Ignis that will also be launched later this year.
