Made-in-India Maruti Fronx aces Japan NCAP with 4 stars

Maruti Suzuki Frox underwent Japan NCAP safety test, where it scored 84%, i.e 163.75 points out of 193.8. The made-in-India vehicle was launched in October 2024 in Japan and is equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System and an all-wheel-drive system, which the Indian model does not get. The Japan NCAP revealed that the Fronx earned 4 stars in the safety tests. 

Japan NCAP: Preventive safety performance

The Fronx underwent a rigorous test and scored 79.42 out of 85.8, receiving rank A and earning 92%. The Fronx score full marks (out of 5) in Damage Mitigation Brake for pedestrians at daytime, night, bicycles, and lane departure reduction. It lost points in the Damage Mitigation Brake for Intersection, where it is scored 3 out 5 and 4 out of 5 in high-performance headlights and acceleration suppression when the pedal is pressed incorrectly. 

Japan NCAP: Collision safety performance

In this section, the Fronx ranked B and scored 76.33 out of 100 points. The Maruti Suzuki vehicle managed to only score full points in three sections — Full Wrap Frontal Collision (Driver’s Seat), Pedestrian protection (legs) and Side impact (driver’s seat). The former two sections have recently been added to the safety crash test. Fronx scored 4 out of 5 in the following parameters — New Offset Frontal Collision, Rear collision neck protection (driver’s and passenger seat) and Seatbelt Warning. It fared below average, 3 out of 5, only in Pedestrian protection (head).

Maruti Suzuki Fronx in India

The Fronx comes under Maruti Suzuki’s premium brand, Nexa Experience, and is available in three powertrains. The entry-level model is powered by the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine with an output of 88.5 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm at 4,400 rpm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual or an AMT. The company claims the former has a fuel economy of 21.79 kmpl and the latter 22.89 kmpl. The Fronx also offers the 1-litre turbo petrol engine with 98.6 bhp at 5,500 rpm and 147.6 Nm at 2,000 – 4,500 rpm is mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic torque converter. The third option is the CNG model, which churns out 76.4 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 98.5 Nm at 4,300 rpm.
