India’s number one sedan and April’s second best-selling vehicle, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, made its debut in South Africa. The made-in-India sedan misses out on a couple of features that are available in India, but the global market gets an automatic transmission that we don’t get. Here’s a hint: its rival, the Honda Amaze, also offers this option. If you still haven’t guessed it, then we shall get into it in detail. As for the Dzire’s specifications, it’s pretty much the same as the Indian one.
Dzire in South Africa: How is it different?
The Dzire is available in three variants — GA 5 MT, GL+ 5 MT and GL+ CVT. That’s right, the South African market comes with a CVT automatic, which is not available in India. We get the cheaper automatic cousin, the 5-speed AMT.Â
There’s no difference in terms of design, but it misses out on LED lights, including headlights. We have to admit, we love the dual-tone 15-inch alloy wheels, while the Indian market gets plain Jane silver ones.

The interiors are almost identical, except that they missed out on the silver strip in the middle of the dashboard. Though it comes with an infotainment system, it’s the lower trim 7-inch display which misses out on the 360-degree camera, wireless phone charger, push start ignition button and the party piece for the Indian market, the single panel electric sunroof.
It continues to be packed with safety features like six airbags, rear parking sensors, rearview camera, ABS with EBD and cruise control.
Suzuki Dzire: Engine Specifications
The Dzire in South Africa gets the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with an output of 81 bhp and 112 Nm. The powertrain is either mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or an automatic CVT, which is not available in India.
