Made-in-India Honda Elevate earns 5-Star Japan NCAP rating

In India, Honda Elevate competes against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and others.

Honda Elevate is yet to undergo a safety evaluation either at Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP but the SUV has nailed the crash test in Japan. The Japanese New Car Assessment Programme (JNCAP) has awarded the Honda Elevate with a perfect 5-star rating with a staggering 90 per cent, scoring 176.23 out of 193.8 points overall.

Interestingly, the Japan-spec Elevate, known as WR-V, is built by Honda in India. Japanese NCAP is known for its stringent crash test norms and the Elevate scoring a 5-star rating should hold in good stead for Honda India Cars and its safety commitments.  The India-made, showcased outstanding safety performance across various testing parameters.

In the preventive safety assessment, the Japan-spec Elevate achieved a score of 82.22 out of 85.8 which translates to 95%, while in the collision safety test, it earned 86.01 out of 100 scoring 86%. The Elevate received the top Level 5 rating in the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) evaluation and secured a perfect 8 out of 8 for its Automatic Emergency Call System.

The SUV also earned a Level 4 out of 5 rating for pedestrian head protection and the highest Level 5 out of 5 for pedestrian leg protection. As a result, it recorded an overall passenger protection score of 57.73 points and 28.28 points for pedestrian protection. It achieved full marks—5 out of 5—in key safety tests, including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), full-wrap frontal collision, and offset frontal collision.

In terms of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), the SUV scored 5 out of 5 for lane departure prevention assist, and 4 out of 5 in both the high-performance headlight and pedal misapplication prevention tests. Its structural integrity was especially strong on the sides, earning a perfect 5 out of 5 for side collision (driver’s seat) and pedestrian leg protection. It also scored 4 out of 5 for neck injury protection (driver’s seat) and pedestrian head protection.

Japan NCAP tested the Z+ trim of the Elevate (WR-V) which comes equipped with safety features such as 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, vehicle stability control system, Isofix child mount seats, rear parking sensors and camera, child safety locks, seat belt warnings, a day/night rear view mirror and crash sensors. Besides these safety features, this variant was also loaded with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System.

India-spec Honda Elevate: Price & Specs

In India, Honda Elevate is sold in four trims: SV, V, VX and ZX which are priced between 11.91 lakh to Rs 16.71 lakh (ex-showroom). In addition, there is also a special Black Edition of Elevate which is priced at Rs 16.73 lakh (ex-showroom). Elevate is offered with a single engine option: a 1.5-litre iVtec naturally aspirated petrol engine which kicks out 119 bhp and 145 Nm of peak torque. This engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox.
