Kia Syros is the latest car manufactured in India that has earned a 5-star safety rating by the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP). The subcompact SUV has been awarded five stars for both adult and child occupant protection. This is the first made-in-India Kia to score a perfect 5-star safety rating at either BNCAP or Global NCAP.
The Syros scored an impressive 30.21 out of 32 in adult occupant protection (AOP) and 44.42 out of 49 in child occupant protection (COP). Bharat NCAP tested two variants of the Syros in the latest crash: HTK (O) with a 6-speed manual and HTX Plus with a 7-speed DCT automatic. Both variants are powered by the 1.0-litre GDi turbocharged petrol engine.
Safety equipment offered in prototypes crash tested include six airbags, rear ISOFIX mounts, electronic stability control, pedestrian protection, and seat-belt reminder with 3-point seatbelts for every passenger. They also come equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System. The following variants of the Syros are applicable for the 5-star rating:

Kia Syros: Adult Occupant Protection
For AOP, the Syros scored 14.21 out of 16 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and 16 out of 16 in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test. In the side pole impact test, it was rated OK. The report stated that the protection for the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck was good, while the protection for the driver’s chest and knees was rated as adequate. The overall protection level was rated good.

Kia Syros: Child Occupant Protection
For COP, Syros scored 23.42 points out of 24 in the dynamic test, 10 points out of 12 in CRS installation, and 9 points out of 13 in vehicle assessment. Two child dummies—an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old—were used in the test. Both were placed in rearward-facing child seats installed in the front passenger seat, secured using ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg.
The 18-month-old dummy received scores of 7.58 out of 8 for frontal impact protection and a perfect 4 out of 4 for side impact protection. Similarly, the 3-year-old dummy demonstrated excellent protection, scoring 7.84 out of 8 for frontal impact and 4 out of 4 for side impact.

Kia Syros: Powertrain Specs
Kia offers two engine options with the Syros: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol mill and a 1.5-litre CRDi diesel unit. The former dishes out 118 bhp and 172 Nm of peak torque whereas the latter pushes out 114 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. Both engines could be paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
