Isuzu has taken the covers off from the all-electric D-Max pickup truck concept. A production-spec prototype of the same will be showcased at the upcoming 45th Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand to be held between 27 March to 7 April 2024. Upon launch, it will be Isuzu’s first battery electric vehicle (BEV) from Isuzu.
The all-electric pickup is expected to make its way to European markets like Norway and the UK in 2025, followed by launches in Australia and Thailand, based on market needs and the maturity of EV charging infrastructure. From the looks of it, the D-Max EV looks familiar to its fossil-fueled counterparts.
Isuzu D-Max EV concept: Expected details
The all-electric D-Max concept gets the same haunches and styling elements as the current D-Max. The only visible differences are the addition of blue accents on the twin-slatted front grille, and headlamps. The dual-tone alloy wheels, a massive footboard, and flared wheel arches complement its pickup truck stance.

Powering the Isuzu D-Max EV is a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery which sends energy to a twin-motor, permanent all-wheel drive setup. The 40 kW front and 90 kW rear motor dish out a combined peak output of 175 bhp and 325 Nm of torque. This makes it 14 horses more powerful than the current India-spec diesel-powered D-Max.
As for performance, the D-Max EV can clock a top speed of 130 kmph. The company is yet to reveal the single-charge range offered by the D-Max EV. The electric pickup has a loading capacity of 1 tonne and a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes, making it suitable as a commercial vehicle in most international markets.

It is yet not known if Isuzu is even thinking of bringing the all-electric D-Max to India at any point in the future. The Japanese brand sells the older version of D-Max in India while international markets get a more advanced new-gen model of the pickup truck. Therefore, it is too early to predict if Isuzu will bring an all-electric version of an already niche vehicle.
