Renault has confirmed the name of the seven-seater Duster as Boreal. The new SUV is expected to make its debut first in Brazil, while the make-in-India SUV could officially break cover next year. Based on the Dacia Bigster, the Boreal was first caught doing test runs. Even though it was heavily clad, we have discovered some new information on the India-bound Boreal.
Renault Boreal: Design
Based on the images snapped by Carscoops, the fully camouflaged SUV revealed that it sports the signature Renault front grille with horizontal slats and a split headlight design. The LED DRL strip merges with the top part of the grille, which could be in chrome finish. It sports a muscular front bumper housing a wide, all-black mesh grille.

From the side, the Boreal flexes its biceps with larger pronounced wheel arches and the body panels could get character lines to give the SUV a more prominent road presence. The front doors’ window sills come with a chrome finish. The images also reveal that the rear door handles are merged into the C-pillar. Even though the third row windows were cladded, they looked fairly big, which should give the cabin a fairly airy feel for the passengers. The robust and solid build tail gate, which could be electric powered and sports a roof spoiler.
Renault Boreal: Interiors
The spy images by Carscoops don’t reveal the cabin, but the report suggests that it retains the Dacia Bigster interiors. It is expected to be dual-tone in colours with a twin 10.1-inch digital display — one for the infotainment system and the instrument console, a 6-speaker Arkamys sound system, dual-zone climate control and rear air conditioner vents. It also comes with a wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof and lumbar support for the front seats.Â
In terms of safety, the Boreal will be equipped with a Level 2 ADAS suite with 13 features like an automatic emergency braking system, traffic sign recognition with speed alert, lane change warning, lane keeping assist, etc.

Renault Boreal: Engine Specifications
Globally, Renault’s Boreal SUV offer multiple engine options, including a 1.6-litre petrol hybrid and a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. Renault India is contemplating introducing the strong hybrid powertrain, which could then power both the Boreal and Duster. The Boreal will be available in front-wheel or all-wheel drive configurations. It will feature terrain modes such as Auto, Snow, Mud/Sand, Off-Road, and Eco.
