Hyundai last month announced its new product strategy for the Indian market that involved the launch of as many 26 models— including 20 combustion engine cars and 6 EVs— between now and the end of this decade. This will include brand new models, new generation upgrades and mild or mid-cycle facelifts.
Among brand new launches, Hyundai will bring the Bayon to India for the first time in mid-2026, as recently reported by Autocar India. Based on the same platform as the Hyundai i20, the India-bound Bayon was caught testing in South Korea some time back. The sub-4 metre crossover will directly lock horns with Maruti Fronx.
Hyundai Bayon: Expected Design
The test mule shown in the spy images are completely concealed under a foliage. Despite this, we can deduce some details about the crossover. For instance, we can tell the silhouette of the car is very similar to the Bayon sold internationally, however, details such as front and rear lighting, bumpers, and alloy wheels are very different.

The blacked-out front grille and air dam on the front bumper are very similar to the Bayon sold in international markets. Black body claddings on wheel arches further enhance the crossover’s high stance, distinguishing itself from its hatchback sibling. The prototype in these images stands on 17-inch alloy wheels shod with Pirelli tyres. At the rear, the Bayon comes with a contemporary connected LED lighting strip as opposed to a more conventional LED taillamp setup.
Hyundai Bayon: Expected Interiors & Features
Internationally, the Bayon’s all-black interior features several elements shared with other Hyundai models, including the recognizable four-spoke steering wheel, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a dedicated HVAC control panel.Â

Notable features include wireless charging, connected car technology, over-the-air (OTA) updates, fast-charging USB Type-C ports, ambient lighting, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and an 8-speaker Bose sound system. Additionally, the Bayon offers a spacious 411-litre boot.
Hyundai Bayon: Expected Powertrain
The biggest highlights in Bayon will be a new 1.2-litre turbocharged hybrid petrol engine. Currently, it is being offered with a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine which can be had with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. The new 1.2-litre unit will be paired with either a dual-clutch automatic or an e-CVT gearbox.
