Hyundai India that showcased the new-generation Tucson at the Auto Expo 2016, is planning to launch it in the second half of this year. Expected to be priced around Rs 17 lakh, the Hyundai Tucson will be positioned between the Creta and the Santa Fe. Though there will be no direct rival for the Tucson in India at this price point, it will attract buyers going for top-end variants of the Creta and Mahindra XUV500.

“With the success of the Hyundai Creta, we found that lot of customers were preferring the top-end variants, and that’s the time when we decided to bring in a product offering in the wide space between the Creta and the Santa Fe.” said Rakesh Srivastava, Sr Vice President – Marketing & Sales – Hyundai Motor India. Confirming its India launch, he further said that it will be launched in the second half of this year.

To price it competitively, the company might consider manufacturing the new Hyundai Tucson at its Chennai based plant. Similar to its other SUV siblings, Creta and Santa Fe, the new Tucson is also based on Fluidic 2.0 design philosophy. With new trapezoidal grille with three horizontally-placed chrome slats, sweptback projector head-lights with daytime running lamps, boomerang shaped tail-lights, plastic body cladding and other styling elements, the all-new Hyundai Tucson looks very sporty.

With 4475mm length, 1665mm height, 1850mm width and 1655mm wheelbase, the Hyundai Tucson will be quite spacious. Power for Hyundai’s upcoming SUV will come from a 2.0-litre CRDi diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This engine churns out a maximum power output of 175bhp and 402Nm.
