Hyundai is one of the global automotive brands which has expansive plans when it comes to future mobility solutions with electric vehicles (EVs) at the forefront. The South Korean auto giant is concentrating on expanding its born electric range of EVs which are sold under the Ioniq brand. Currently, Hyundai offers two born EVs in its portfolio: Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.
Additionally, Hyundai offers an N Line and a full-fledged N versions of the Ioniq 5 in select international markets. The company has now teased its upcoming flagship EV which is slated to make its global debut soon. Called the Ioniq 9, the upcoming battery-powered SUV will sit on top of Hyunda’s range of born electric vehicles globally.
Hyundai Ioniq 9: Expected design
It will be based on the same e-GMP platform as the Ioniq 5 and the Ionig 6. Ahead of its global unveiling, Hyundai has teased its upcoming flagship EV which will go by the name Ioniq 9. The Korean auto major has shared a few teaser images of the upcoming flagship electric SUV on its website and social media handles. The main teaser image only gives out a partial glimpse of the SUV’s silhouette.

The profile of the car suggests the enormity and the massive footprint of the Ioniq 9 with chunky flared wheel arches and flat bonnet line. At the same time, given the position of the current Ioniq cars, Hyundai has tried to offer an elegant design with a prominent shoulder line and swooping roofline which makes it very contemporary.
Hyundai has also shared glimpses of the lighting setup which mirrors its current design philosophy adopted in the latest iterations of Creta, Alcazar, and Tucson. The headlamps and taillamps receive pixelated treatment with the headlamp setup cascaded into the parametric jewel theme of the faux grille at the front while connected LED taillamps run across the entirety of the C-pillar at the rear. The H-shaped pattern can be clearly seen in these images.
The carmaker has also revealed the alloy wheels which in its multi-spoke avatar looks fairly contemporary yet premium. Rest of the design is still under wraps which should be out when the Ioniq 9 officially breaks cover. However, one thing is for sure that the Ioniq 9 will offer a unique blend of aerodynamic and aesthetic appeal.
Hyundai Ioniq 9: Expected powertrain
Given the Ioniq 9 will be the flagship Hyundai EV to be underpinned by the e-GMP architecture, it is expected to share its powertrain with the Kia EV9 which was launched in India last month. This means the Ioniq 9 will have a dual-motor, all-wheel drive configuration which develops a combined output of 380 bhp and 700 Nm of torque.

The electric motors will feed energy off a 99.8kWh battery pack that will offer an ARAI-certified range of 561 km on a single charge. With the Ioniq 9 will offer a more aerodynamic design as opposed to the boxy design of its cousin, we expect better performance and a quicker 0 to 100 kmph sprint than 5.3 seconds claimed by the EV9.
