Hyundai Ioniq 5 Sets Guinness World Record for EV Altitude Change

Built on the advanced Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the SUV achieved 5,802m elevation change on a 4,900 km journey from Umling La in Leh Ladakh to Kuttanad in Kerala.

Hyundai Motor India has announced that its flagship electric SUV, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, has successfully achieved a Guinness World Records title for the greatest altitude change by an electric car. The record was set after the Ioniq 5 travelled from Umling La, the highest driving point in India, located at 5,799m (19,024 ft) above sea level in Leh Ladakh, to Kuttanad in Kerala, which is 3m below sea level. The electric vehicle accomplished an altitude change of 5,802m during this journey.

Navigating through the challenging terrains and extreme climatic conditions, the feat was completed in 14 days, covering a distance of 4,900 km. By smoothly handling conditions from freezing temperatures in the Himalayas to humid coastal areas in Kerala, this showcased Hyundai Ioniq 5’s resilience, advanced technology, and performance.

Hyundai Ioniq 5: Powertrain 

The five seater Hyundai Ioniq 5 SUV, with automatic transmission, features an electric battery with capacity of 72.6 kWh, that gives 214.56 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque, offering an excellent driving range, advanced safety, and innovative smart technologies for a versatile e-mobility experience. The lithium-ion battery comes with a eight years or 1, 60,000 km warranty.
