With the onset of a new year, Hyundai is gearing up to launch its next big product for the Indian market in the form of Creta EV. The much anticipated electric SUV has been in development for a long time and test mules of the same have been spotted on numerous occasions over the past one and a half years.

The Korean carmaker has released the first official teaser for the all-electric Creta on its social media which included an image as well as a short video. The first teaser image highlights an AC charging station with a caption that reads “Electric is now Creta”.

The second teaser video partially reveals the silhouette of the electric SUV without uncovering the vehicle in its entirety. The clip reveals the charging flap built at the front nose of the car. At a recent investor’s meeting in November, Tarun Garg, COO of Hyundai Motor India, announced that this new EV SUV will debut at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025.

Hyundai Creta EV: Expected Design

The Creta EV will likely retain the current design from the petrol and diesel-powered Creta with only minor adjustments. As an electric vehicle, it will feature a closed front grille and more aerodynamic 17-inch alloy wheels to enhance efficiency. Previous spy photos have indicated a redesigned rear bumper for the Creta EV. Apart from these subtle changes, the overall design will remain largely the same.

From the latest teaser it seems Hyundai might give the jewel-themed grille seen in the ICE Creta a miss in the battery-powered SUV although the split lighting setup with dual-projector LED headlamps and twin LED DRLs connected by thin LED strip shall be carried over to the Creta electric. The side profile and rear end are also expected to borrow the same layout as the fossil-fueled Creta.

Hyundai Creta EV: Expected interiors & features

The electric Creta SUV will inherit its cabin layout from its gasoline-powered counterpart while introducing a new three-spoke steering wheel, replacing the previous flat-bottom design. The inclusion of a stalk drive selector behind the wheel is highly probable, contributing to a more modern driving experience. The interior will be elevated by a curved 10.25-inch dual-screen setup, seamlessly integrating the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster.

To underscore its electric nature, the upholstery will showcase a distinctive Creta electric motif. As an EV, the Creta will likely introduce an array of advanced features. In terms of safety and convenience, the Creta EV is expected to include Level 2 ADAS, six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, hill start assist control, electronic stability control, front parking sensors, and many more.

Hyundai Creta EV: Expected powertrain, rivals, & price

Previous reports have suggested that Hyundai will employ a modified platform of the existing Creta for the upcoming battery-powered version. It is likely to borrow the same powertrain as the Kona Electric featuring a 45 kWh battery pack. This places it at par with Tata Curvv’s entry-level variant while the MG ZS EV gets a 50.3 kWh battery pack.

The upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is also looking to get into the thick of things with two battery options — 49 kWh and 61 kWh with an output of 142 bhp and 171 bhp respectively. The 61 kWh will also be available in AWD and have a higher output of 181 bhp. The Creta EV will most likely be offered with a front-wheel drive setup only. Expect the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV to be priced between Rs 20 and 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
