Honda launched the first mass-market strong hybrid in India in the form of City e:HEV in May 2022. Based on the fifth-gen City, the City e:HEV has an amphibian ability to run both on fossil fuels as well as battery. This reduces fuel consumption, emission levels, and ambient noise.
Initially available in two trims– V and ZX – Honda has now brought down the City e:HEV lineup to just one variant. The hybrid sedan is now offered in the top-spec ZX trim only which is priced Rs 20.55 lakh (ex-showroom).
Honda City hybrid features & specs
Honda offers the City e:HEV with features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a sunroof, ambient lighting, connected car technology, and automatic climate control with rear AC vents.
Safety features offered in the hybrid sedan include six airbags, an electronic parking brake,ORVM-mounted lane-watch cameras, multi-angle rear-view camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TMPS), vehicle stability assist, hill-start assist and ISOFIX-compatible rear seats. It also benefits from a camera-based advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) comprising adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, high beam assist, and autonomous emergency braking.
Powering Honda City hybrid is a 1.5-litre Atkinson Cycle petrol engine mated to two electric motors– one acting as an electric generator and the other as a means of propulsion. This powertrain is mated to an eCVT gearbox and delivers a combined peak output of 126hp and 253 Nm of torque. Honda claims a fuel economy of 27.13 kmph for the City e:HEV.
