New-gen Maruti Swift: What’s new?

The new Swift will receive minor exterior updates such as a new blacked-out grille with honeycomb mesh internals and gloss-black surrounds, a new clamshell bonnet, and sleeker headlamps with integrated L-shaped DRLs. The India-spec model is likely to roll on 15-inch dual-tone machine-cut alloy wheels.

The rear-door handles will now move to a conventional place underneath the window pane. At the rear, the taillamps look more squarish with different internals. Further, the fourth-gen Swift is likely to be 15 mm longer, 30 mm taller, and 40 mm narrower than its predecessor. However, the wheelbase will remain identical to the outgoing model.

Inside the cabin, the all-dark interiors are expected to make way for a dual-tone grey-black theme resembling the likes of Fronx and Baleno. The dashboard has been completely relaid with a new free-standing 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system taking centre stage. Other notable feature additions in the new Swift will include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 360-degree parking camera with dashcam support, cruise control, and a head-up display.

However, the biggest update will be the addition of an all-new 1.2-litre Z-series 3-cylinder petrol engine. While exact figures are yet to be revealed, this motor is expected to kick out similar output figures as the older 4-cylinder K-series unit. Transmission duties are expected to be carried out either by a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT.
