While the Indian government is trying to persuade Tesla to set up shop in India, another American electric vehicle (EV) brand might be eyeing entry to the country’s market. A test mule of the company’s all-electric Ocean SUV was spotted testing on the roads of Hyderabad recently.

Fisker Ocean in India

The American EV brand registered itself in India in April last year with its headquarters established in Hyderabad, Telangana. The Indian arm of Fisker Inc has been given the name Fisker Vigyan India Pvt Ltd. The firm has already started hiring locals who will work in tandem with the Fisker team in California, USA.

Earlier in July this year, Fisker announced that it will produce 100 Fisker Extreme Vigyan Edition all-electric SUVs for the Indian market. Going by the latest set of spy shots, we believe this could be one of the Fisker Extreme Vigyan Edition SUVs to come to India. The spy images of the uncamouflaged test mule reveals a lot about the design of the new SUV.

The latest spy shots suggest a sizable road presence for the all-black battery-powered SUV at the same time a very contemporary design. The rear end features a curved tailgate housing sleek wraparound LED taillamps, a chunky rear bumper; and a sleek and long roof-mounted spoiler with integrated brake lamp. Side profile looks clean with squared-off wheel arches and all-black alloy wheels.

Internationally, Fisker is available in three trims – Sport, Ultra, and Extreme. The base Sport trim will deliver an estimated range of 372 km (WLTP test cycle); the Ultra trim claims a single-charge range of 563 km (WLTP), while the Extreme trim is expected to deliver up to 580 km(WLTP). In India, Fisker is expected to bring the top-spec trim of Ocean. The electric SUV comes with two-wheel as well as all-wheel drive layouts.

Fisker Ocean expected India launch

Fisker hasn’t yet confirmed an official launch date for the Ocean, but we can expect some sort of announcement regarding the same. It is likely to come to India as a fully-imported CBU model and hence expected to be priced closer to the crore mark. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of Mercedes-Benz EQE, BMW iX, Audi e-tron and Jaguar i-Pace.
