Ferrari broke the internet when its first ever SUV/crossover was unveiled last year. Essentially a sports car on stilettos, the Purosangue is an attempt to match the likes of Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Macan Electric, and Aston Martin DBX. Now, the Prancing Horse will find itself embossed on a fully electric vehicle (EV).
There have been rumours of Ferrari working on an EV for a long time but nothing concrete has been announced by the Italian supercar brand yet. Recently, a camouflaged prototype of what appears to be the Purosangue was caught testing outside Ferrari’s new facility at Maranello, Italy.
Ferrari EV spied testing
However, on a closer inspection it can be inferred that the vehicle isn’t exactly the same as Purosangue. In fact, the final production-spec version of this EV from Ferrari will look very different for the test mule. The prototype is using the bodyshell of a Maserati Levante SUV but underneath it will be very different when it actually hits production. The images also show twin-tip exhaust on either side of the rear bumper, which can easily be presumed are fake units.
Up front, the crossover is seen mangled up with headlamps from Ferrari Roma. The test mule is seen rolling on much bigger wheels than the standard Levante with a lowered suspension, which are characteristics of a typical Ferrari. The front nose looks completely sealed-off while the wider track has been covered by plastic extensions.
According to an earlier report by Reuters, Ferrari’s first EV is expected to be launched next year. We expect the new Ferrari EV to be an all-new model with a brand new design and name and not a battery-powered version of an existing combustion engine model. More details around the same are expected to come out in the coming months.
