Ferrari has revealed the 296 Challenge ahead of its global debut slated for 23 October. The sports car will then make its maiden public appearance at the Mugello Circuit to be held between October 24 and 30. The 296 Challenge will be the ninth model in the history of Ferrari’s Challenge Trofeo Pirelli range.
Expected to make its debut in North American and European markets next year, the 296 Challenge boasts a host of new features with respect to the Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo. Design of Ferrari’s latest offering, a road-legal car, has been optimised for track usage.
Ferrari 296 Challenge highlights
Both in terms of performance and lap consistency throughout a race, the 296 Challenge rewrites the parameters of the Prancing Horse single-make series, offering specifications that closely mirror those offered in the 296 GT3, which made its debut this year. Based on the 296 GTB, the 296 Challenge boasts substantial upgrades in the powertrain, aero and vehicle dynamics fronts, all aimed at ensuring maximum performance on the track.

Powering the Ferrari 296 Challenge is the first 120-degree V6 in the history of the Finali Mondiali championship. It gets a 2992cc twin turbo engine without any hybrid components that dishes out 690 horses and 740 Nm of peak torque, thus translating to an astonishing 231 hp per litre.
With great engine output comes great aerodynamics and the same is the case with the 296 Challenge. In fact, the 296 Challenge generates in excess of 870 kg of downforce at 250 km/h with the spoiler at its maximum angle of attack. Anchoring the car to a halt is the addition of new CCM-R PLUS brake discs aided complemented by ABS EVO Track setup featuring carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes.
Further, aiding the new Ferrari’s on-road dynamics specifically-developed Pirelli 19-inch tyres. The 296 Challenge will replace the 488 Challenge Evo from Ferrari’s lineup.
