Volvo has silently pulled the plug on the petrol-powered XC40 in India. As of now, the company’s official website lists only five models for the Indian market– four in the SUV lineup including XC40 Recharge, C40 Recharge, XC60, and XC90; and one sedan in the form of S90.
It is yet to be seen if the XC40 has been temporarily delisted or permanently shelved off the market. Going by the scheme of things, and the Swedish carmaker’s commitment to transform into an all-electric brand by 2030, it seems difficult for the compact SUV to make a return in the future.
Volvo XC40 petrol specs
In India, the XC40 was available in the B4 Ultimate variant which came with a mild-hybrid powertrain featuring a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 48V battery. This powertrain returned 197 bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties were carried out by a 8-speed automatic gearbox which transferred to all four wheels via an all-wheel drive setup.
Internationally, Volvo XC40 competes against the likes of Mercedes Benz GLA, BMW X1, and Audi Q3. The SUV received a mid-cycle facelift last year. The last recorded price of the XC40 was Rs 46.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
Volvo XC40 Recharge specs
With growing demand for luxury electric cars, Volvo is now banking on XC40 Recharge. The electric SUV features two electric motors that push out a combined output of 402 bhp and 660 Nm. The car can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.9 seconds. The EV is powered by a 79 kWh battery pack that offers a claimed maximum range of 418 km. Volvo says that the battery pack can be recharged from 10% to 80% in 28 minutes using a fast charger.
